About Counselling and Psychotherapy

What can I expect from Counselling or Psychotherapy?

A safe and trusting `space’ that is co-created between the counsellor and client. Where the client can expect to be listened to and heard in a non-judgemental and congruent manner.
Where a client can bring issues/anxieties and the counsellor can contain them in a calming environment and reflect them back in a more palatable way that allows the client better understanding of him/herself.

You can expect to be listened to, with respect and understanding and, to be taken seriously. Counselling is about wanting to look at an aspect of your life that may be worrying you, to make use of the safe environment created with the trust that you build up with your counsellor.

You may wish to take your time and explore your life quite fully and thoroughly, or use a few sessions just to offload and clear your head a bit.
Either way, your sessions are confidential and any reputable counsellor will subscribe to a code of ethics such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or BACP which gives guidance to both counsellor and client on a way of working that is safe for both.
